I IS DUM

How do i graph this- do i need to change it? is it in point slope form?

y - 10.50 = 1.25x - 2.5

It needs to be y = mx + b so y needs to be alone. All you need to do is add 10.50 to the other side which gives you y= 1.25x + 8.

Answer:

Explanation:

Graphing y - 10.50 = 1.25x - 2.5 becomes easier if you first re-write this equation in standard (slope-intercept) form.

That form is y = mx + b, where m is the slope of the straight line you'll be graphing, and b is the y-intercept. Sometimes we write the y-intercept as (0, b); that is, when x = 0, y = b.

Now compare y - 10.50 = 1.25x - 2.5 to

y = mx + b.

First, add 10.50 to both sides. Why? to isolate y on the left side of this equation. Adding 10.50 to both sides, we get

y = 1.25x - 2.5 + 10.50.

Let's combine that -2.5 and that 10.50: we get 8.00.

Then our equation looks like:

y = 1.25x + 8. Comparing this to

y = mx + b, we see that the slope, m, must be 1.25,

and that the y-intercept, b, must be 8.

Start by plotting a dot at (0, 8), to mark the y-intercept. Find the origin (0, 0), put your pencil point on it, and then move UP 8 units. Plot (0, 8) there (make a dot).

Now let's analyze what "slope = m = 1.25" means. 1.25 can be rewritten as 5/4. Slope is defined as "rise over run," so if the slope, m, is 5/4, the rise is 5 and the run is 4.

Place your pencil point at the y-intercept, (0, 8). Now move this pencil point 4 spaces to the right, and from this new location, move this pencil point 5 spaces UP. Plot (4, 5+8), or (4, 13).

Finally, draw a straight line thru these new points (0, 8) and (4, 13).

I'm sure you can learn this material. Please adjust your thinking to "I can learn this material!" and stop writing "I is dum." Thanks.
