Answer:

A. Elias Howe

Step-by-step explanation:

The sewing machine was created simultaneously by five different persons. All of those people were brought together by Singer, a technical genius, who created the first Singer Sewing Machine by combining the best elements of each machine. Everyone was requested to sign the patent with their names. But none did... FYI…Singer was the first company ever to spend a million dollars to advertise and promote their wonderful new device. In the USA, we think Elias Howe ought to be recognized with creating the first functional lockstitch sewing machine. The term "lockstitch" is significant because Howe's design was more practical than hand sewing for producing clothing because it was the first mechanized stitching technique to produce a stitch out of two individual threads that "locked" and didn't unstitch itself nearly as easily as the chainstitch machines at the time. While Howe was seeking potential investors in Europe, Isaac Merrit Singer rapidly stole his concept, copyrighted his invention, and established an American empire, becoming the country's own Thomas Edison before the real Thomas Edison.
