distribute 3/4 into the parentheses, set the equation equal to each other. subtract 7 from both sides of the x’s equation and then solve.

Simplify the left hand side by multiplying the terms in the parenthesis by 3/4, i.e. divide them by 4 and multiply them by 3:

(3)/(4)(8x-4)=7x+2 \iff 3(2x-1)=7x+2 \iff 6x-3 = 7x+2

Subtract 6x from both sides:

-3=x+2

Subtract 2 to both sides:

x=-5
