A sample of helium occupies 0.56 L at 988 mm Hg and 25 celsius. If the sample is transferred to a 1.0L flask at the same temperature, what will the gas pressure be in the new flask?

Answer;

= 553.28 mmHg

According Boyle's the volume of a fixed mass of a gas is inversely proportional to pressure at constant temperature.

P1V1 =P2V2

P1 = 988 mmHg

V2 = 0.56 L

V2 = 1.0 L

P2 = ?

P2 = P1V1/V2

= (988 × 0.56)/1

= 553.28 mmHg
