I NEED HELP ASAP

Liam is setting up folding chairs for a meeting. If he arranges the chairs in 8 rows of the same length, he has 5 chairs left over. If he arranges the chairs in 6 rows of that same length, he has 13 left over. How many chairs does Liam have?

Answer:

37 chairs.

Explanation:

Let x be number of chairs that Liam has and y = number of chairs in 1 row.

Then x = 8y + 5

and x = 6y + 13 Subtracting:

0 = 2y - 8

2y = 8

y = 4.

and x = 8(4) + 5 = 37 chairs (answer).

Hope this helps.
