First of all the main function of the digestive system is to break down the foods we eat and release the nutrients from the nourishment as the esophagus warms and moistens the nutrients, which then helps them absorb into the body.

There are 2 different parts of the digestive system.

The alimentary canal is known as the GI tract and it's purpose is to absorb the nutrients.

The accessory digestive organ helps in the breakdown of food in the digestive system.
