There is no reference but she can demonstrate that the liquid is a combination of other substances by:

If solids:

1. If you can see any solids
2. Reducing the temperature of the liquid so that the dissolved solid will crystallize.

If Liquids:

1. Fractional distillation
2. Observe difference in density
