A grocer purchased a 100-pound mixture of nuts for $1.50. The mixture contains 40 pounds of walnuts that costs $2.25 per pound. What is the average cost per pound of the other nuts in the mixture?

Answer: $1.00

Explanation:

40(2.25) + 60x = 100(1.50)

90 + 60x = 150

-90 - 90

60x = 60

÷ 60 ÷ 60

x = 1
