First we add.
2 (4.99) + 3 (11.46) = $44.36
We were told that she has to pay 6% in tax, so all we have to do is multipy $44.36 by 0.06 and add that result to $44.36 and you will get this:
$44.36 * 0.06 = $2.66
$44.36 + $2.66 = $47.02
