I would probably say freedom, mostly because she wants to ask her husband why he has changed. But she is scared to ask fearing of something bad. And now she is just stuck with him and cant do anything now since she is not allowed to ask because she was a girl. And she still faces all the racism and marriage during the time period, which makes it impossible for her to be allowed to ask her husband anything that isnt her business.
I think this is right its been a little while since i've read the book.
