The Margin of Safety is the amount of sales that exceeds the break even point.

The formula as a sales number is:

Margin of Safety= Actual Sales - Break Even Point

The formula as a percentage of sales is:

Margin of Safety % = (Actual Sales- Break even point)/ Actual Sales
