Explain how the Soviet threat affected foreign and military policy during the Eisenhower years​

The threat of the Soviets caused two things to emerge:

1. Containment Policy: Under George Kennan at the State Department, a new theory emerged in which the Soviet Union and communism needed to be contained around the world.

2. Militarization: As a result of the existential threat posed by the Soviet Union, the US began rebuilding up their military to heights not seen since World War II.
