Answer:

y = - 4x + 1

Explanation:

The equation of a line in slope- intercept form is

y = mx + c ( m is the slope and c the y- intercept )

To calculate m use the slope formula

m = ( y₂ - y₁ ) / ( x₂ - x₁ )

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (1, - 3) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (2, - 7) ← 2 points from the table

m =
(-7+3)/(2-1) = - 4, thus

y = - 4x + c ← is the partial equation

To find c substitute any ordered pair from the table into the partial equation

Using (1, - 3), then

- 3 = - 4 + c ⇒ c = - 3 + 4 = 1

y = - 4x + 1 ← equation in slope- intercept form
