Simplify 6/8 to 3/4

1 1/4 + 1 3/4

Add the whole numbers first

2 + 1/4 + 3/4

Join the denominators

2 + 1 + 3/4

Simplify

2 + 1

1) common denominator

you can make one 1/4 to have the denominator 8 by Multiplying by 2

2x4=8 what you do to the denominator you do the same for the numerator.

So 1x2=2.

Now 1 1/4 turn to 1 2/8.

2) just add

1 2/8 +1 6/8= 3

Add the 2 whole numbers which will give you 2.

When you add the numerator 2+6=8 so 8/8=1 so your answer is 3.
