use the pythagorean theorem to find the missing part of A

{8}a^(2) + {b}^(2) = {10}^(2)

64 + {b}^(2) = 100

remove 64 on both sides

64-64+b^2=100-64

b^2=36

find the square root for 36

\sqrt{{b}^(2) } = √(36)

b=6

remember that for later

use Pythagorean theorem again to find the missing side for B

{a}^(2) + {8}^(2) = {17}^(2)

{a}^(2) + 64 = 289

remove 64 both sides

a^2+64-64=289-64

a^2=225

find square root for 225

\sqrt {a}^(2) = √(225)

a=15

add the sides together

6 (b) + 15 (a) = 21
