Answer:

There are 4 chocolate cakes and 4 lemon cakes.

Explanation:

Let L = number of lemon cakes

C =number of chocolate cakes

L+C = 8

8C + 4L = 48

Take the first equation and solve for L

L+C-C = 8-C

L = 8-C

Substitute this into the second equation

8C + 4(8-C) = 48

Distribute

8C +32 -4C = 48

Combine like terms

4C+32=48

Subtract 32 from each side

4C +32-32 = 48-32

4C = 16

Divide each side by 4

4C/4=16/4

C = 4

There are 4 chocolate cakes

Now we need to find L

L= 8-C

= 8-4

= 4

There are 4 lemon cakes
