a and b are the two leg sides

c is the longest side.

a^2+b^2=c^2

a=x

b=9

c=11

a=c-b

11 squared is 121

9 squared is 81

121-81=40

The square root of 40, rounded to the nearest hundredth, is 6.32

Answer:

6.3 ft to the nearest tenth.

Explanation:

The length of the ladder is 11 ft, the bottom of the ladder is 9 ft from the side of the house.

The height of the house can be calculated using Pythagoras Theorem.

h^2+9^2=11^2

This implies that;

h^2+81=121

Group similar terms;

h^2=121-81

h^2=40

Take positive square root of both sides;

h=√(40)

h=2√(10)

h\approx6.3 to the nearest tenth
