Assuming the roles will be filled in order, this is how you would figure it out

(e.g. role 1 is assigned, then role 2 is assigned)

There would be 9 possible candidates for the first position

Once that position has been decided, the second position will have 8 possible candidates

FOr the third position, there will be 7 possible candidates

6 possible candidates for the fourth position

5 possible candidates for the fifth position

To find all the different possibilities, you need to multiply the number of possible candidates for each role together:

9 x 8 x 7 x 6 x 5 = 15120

It would be option B

Hope This Helps You!

Good Luck (:

Hey there!

"A student government has 5 positions to fill and there are 9 candidates running for any one of the positions. How many different possibilities are there for the 5 positions?"

  1. Highlight your key terms (this step helps you understand the question/ word problem better). We are going a little bit downward. until we find out what we're going to do to solve this equation :)
  2. We have about 9 possible candidates for your "First position"
  3. Your "second position" would probably most likely going to be 8, I believe
  4. For your "third position" you would have it as 7
  5. For your "fourth position" you would most likely have about 6
  6. And last but not least for your "fifth position" the amount of candidates would most likely be 5
  7. Now that we have that portion out of the way, let's solve for your answer!

\bold{Your \ steps\downarrow}

  • \bold{9*8*7*6*5}

  • \bold{9*8=72}

  • \bold{72*7*6*5}

  • \bold{72*7=504}

  • \bold{504*6*5}

  • \bold{504*6=3,024}

  • \bold{3,024*5=15,120}

  • \boxed{\boxed{\bold{Your \ Answer:15,120}}}\checkmark

Good luck on your assignment and enjoy your day!
