I spilt the shape into a rectangle and square and went from there. Since the rectangle width is 3, and can subtract that to 5 and get 2, which tells us that the length and width for the square is 4 and 2. Three times nine is twenty-seven. Add that to 8 (which is the result of 4 times 2) and it equals to 35. Hope that helped! :D
