The yellow press was the name given to sensational press generated by A. Randolph Hearst, a major newspaper magnate. Hearst used journalism to arouse strong passions and sentiments, especially toward foreign countries of entities hostile to the United states. Yellow journalism was at its apex during the Spanish American War. Hearts used journalism to paint lurid pictures of the Spanish in order to promote American imperialism and intervention in various parts of the Western Hemisphere.

DescriptionYellow journalism and the yellow press are American terms for journalism and associated newspapers that present little or no legitimate well-researched news while instead using eye-catching headlines for increased sales. Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism.
