Calculate the mass of nitrogen dioxide present in a 0.527 L container if the pressure is 225.5 kPa and the temperature is 20.1°C.

= 2.2448 g

Step-by-step explanation;

Using the equation;

PV = nRT , where P is the pressure,. V is the volume, n is the number of moles and T is the temperature and R is the gas constant, 0.08206 L. atm. mol−1.

Pressure = 225.5 kPa. or 2.226 atm

Temperature = 20.1 +273 = 293.1 Kelvin

Volume = 0.527 L

Therefore; to get the mass of NO2 we first get the number of moles

n = PV/RT

= (2.226 × 0.527)/(0.08206 × 293.1)

= 0.0488 Moles

But; 1 mole of NO2 = 46 g/mol

Thus; the mass of NO2

= 0.0488 moles × 46 g/mol

= 2.2448 g
