1. What must you set a quadratic function equal to in order to solve it?

0

ax^2 + bx + c = 0

2. Explain how to complete the square to solve a quadratic function.

Arrange the quadratic into the standard format:

ax^2 + bx + c = 0

Write out the initial bracket:

(x + b/2)^2

Expand the initial bracket:

(x + b/2)^2 = ax^2 + b + b^2

Compare b^2 to c and adjust the equation:

c - b^2 = d

(x + b/2)^2 + d

3. What is the relationship between a directrix and focus to the graph of a quadratic function known as a parabola?

A parabola is the graph of a quadratic function. (See Attachment). It is also the set of all points whose distance is from the focus is equal to the distance from the directrix.
