The nurse leader has assembled a team to develop a plan to decrease the number of patient falls on the unit. Which statement by a team member is the best example of an exemplary follower? 1. “I think we are doing all that we can do. There is no way we can add anything else and still complete patient care.” 2. “I have noticed that the last few patients who fell were experiencing dementia. What if we focused on those patients first?” 3. “I think that no matter what we do, patients will still fall. We can’t be with them 24 hours a day.” 4. “I can’t believe we are going to do this again. All we will come up with is another form to fill out.”

The correct answer is 2.

The statement by a team member that is the best example of an exemplary follower would be “I have noticed that the last few patients who fell were experiencing dementia. What if we focused on those patients first?”

All the other statements are very negative and are not patient focused and are not good examples of team members or followers. However this above statement by a team member is focusing on the patient and not on themselves, they are making observations and suggestions in an attempt to be a good team member and obviously acknowledge that the nurse leader is in charge and is needing some positive input from her team.
