2x + 7y = 3 → (1)

x = - 4y → (2)

Substitute x = - 4y into (1)

2(- 4y) + 7y = 3

- 8y + 7y = 3

- y = 3 ( multiply both sides by - 1 )

y = - 3

Substitute y = 3 into (2) for corresponding value of x

x = - 4 × - 3 = 12

Solution is (12, - 3)
