You can write a proportion using ratios between similar triangles to solve for HK. There are three right triangles in the drawing. There is the entire triangle and two triangles within it. Write a proportion between HIK and HJK.

The proportion will use IK and HK as well as KJ and HK. HK will be x.


(16+9)/(x)=(x)/(9)

Cross multiply to solve.

25(9) = x*x

225 = x^2

15 = x

So HK is 15.
