Answer:

The answer is x = 11 or x = -1

Explanation:

3 Ix - 5I + 2 = 20

3 Ix - 5I = 20 - 2

3 Ix - 5I = 18 ⇒ ÷ 3 both sides

Ix - 5I = 6

∴ x - 5 = 6 ⇒ ∴ x = 11

OR

∴ -x + 5 = 6 ⇒ -x = 1 ⇒ ∴ x = -1

Answer:

x = -1 or x = 11

Explanation:

We have given a equation.

3|x – 5| + 2 = 20

We have to find the value of x.

Adding -2 to both sides of above equation ,we have

3|x – 5| + 2-2 = 20-2

3|x – 5| + 0 = 18

3|x – 5|= 18

Dividing by 3 to both sides of above equation, we have

(3|x – 5| ) / 3= 18 / 3

|x – 5| = 6

Applying absolute value definition to above equation , we have

x-5 = -6 or x-5 = 6

x =-6+5 or x = 6+5

x = -1 or x = 11 which is the answer.
