Drag each tile to the correct location on the chart.
A population of raccoons lives in a forested area with lots of trees. The raccoons eat insects, eggs, berries, nuts, and small animals such as rodents and frogs. One of the main predators of the raccoons are coyotes, which also prey on rabbits.

Identify whether the changes to the ecosystem are more likely to increase or decrease the population of raccoons.

Answer:

See the attached file

Step-by-step explanation:

Factor 1 – Additional rain would increase the population of plants in the forest

Raccoon depends on berries and nuts of produced by these plants and hence increase in population of the plants will enhance the food availability for the raccoons

Factor 2 – More permits to hunt coyotes are approved

Coyotes prey on raccoons , hence any thing which decreases the population of predator “coyotes” will increase the population of raccoon

Factor 3 – A disease decreasing the population of rabbit will increase the population of raccoon as rabbits are predator of raccoons

Factor 4 – Decrease in population of insects directly causes decline in availability of food for Raccoons and hence this factor will cause reduction in raccoon population

Factor 5 – Destruction to forest causes decline in availability of food for Raccoons and hence this factor will cause reduction in raccoon population

Factor 6 – Raccoon feed on frogs and hence increase in frog’s population will increase the population of Raccoon

The ones that should be in the 'Increases Population' are:

- Additional rain increases the population of plants the forest.

- More permits to hunt coyotes are approved.

- Frogs in a pond near the forest experience a population surge.

The ones that should be in the 'Decreases Population' are:

- A disease decreases a population of rabbits in the forest.

- Population of a nearby farm decreases the population of insects in the forest.

- Large parts of the forest are cut down for wood.

(I hope this helped!)
