5A - the steel plow
The steel plow allowed farmers to plant their crops as it helped them break up the hard soil easier.
6B - Sod had to be broken to prepare fields for crops.
On the plains, the soil was very hard and covered with soil. Origianl plows had a difficut time breaking through the sod - the steel plow allowed for easier farming for the settlers.
