Then (1.00-0.10)(n) = 54 pounds, or 0.90(54)n = 54 pounds.

Dividing both sides of this equation by 0.90(54)n yields:

54 pounds

n = -------------------- = 60 pounds

The shoes were formerly priced at 60 pounds.

10% off of that would come to 6 pounds, so the sale price would be
