Salut !

Connaître means “to know” in the sense of being acquainted with someone or something.

Exemple :

Je connais Marie. (I am acquainted with Marie)

Savoir means “to know” in the sense of knowing how to do something or knowing something by heart.

Exemple :

Je sais danser. (I know how to dance.)

Je sais ma leçon.

Bonjour

savoir et connaitre are both translated as "to know" in English

But in French, they have a different meaning :

SAVOIR =

this verb is followed

- by a verb infinitive and means you've learned to do something.. It expresses an abilty

- Elle sait jouer de la guitare = she knows how to play the guitar

- it can also be followed by a subordinate clause to express a fact ....

Elle sait quand nous allons partir = she knows when we are going to leave.

-

CONNAITRE

This verb is followed by a noun, always a direct object, never by a subordinate clause nor by another verb

it is used for people, acquaintances, places...

- Je connais ce restaurant = I know this restaurant.

- Tu connais mes parents = You know my parents

-

You know this city = tu connais cette ville (you've been there; you know it exists)

You know where is this city = tu sais où elle se trouve (you've learned where it is ...)

-

you know people, places.. = tu connais des gens, des endroits

but

you know facts = tu sais ce que les gens font

-

you know (connaitre) Peter

you know (savoir) parler français

hope this helps to understand ☺☺☺
