Assonance is a style of writing, or technique, much used in poetry and other literary genres to generate a reaction in the reader as they become attracted by the repeated sounds of a vowel. The main reason for writers to use this technique is to affect the rythm, mood and tone of a text. In order for assonance to be identified by a reader, and for it to have an effect on the reader, the similar vowel sounds must be closeby within the text, otherwise this distinction is lost. In contrast to assonance, there is another literary technique, also used in poetry, that has a similar purpose, but does this through the repetitive sound of beginning consonants, instead of vowels, and it is called alliteration. But in this case, the repeated sounds in these words: "easy", "me", "feel" and "see", is of the E vowel and therefore is an example of assonance.
