Culture has a significant impact on both diagnoses and treatment options, primarily because of different social beliefs, but also because of biological factors. In order to improve the care of patients in general,

Culture can influence health and illness in many ways-
( This might be a generalization but we are going to let it be that.)
Food- Diffrent cultures eat different food of course! Some diets might be more “American” and contain fake sugars and gease, while some cultures might have natural animal fats and such. This difference can actually make, well, a difference in health! You also have to think about vegetarian or more plant based diets. Food can vary so much and affect overall health!
Activity- some cultures are pretty active, while others are not.
Compare the physical activity of the average American to that of someone living in the Chilean mountains herding llamas. Think about it.
Drinking, smoking, etc.- some cultures behaviors like this are unacceptable and not practiced, so these culture won’t really see the affects of these behaviors, while others will. (Such as some religions retaining from Alcohol, etc.)
Medical practices- we tend to only think of first world medicine - hospitals, antibiotics, and x-rays. We forget that not everyone has access to these resources and may go for more natural remedies such as herbs, spices, spiritual practices, etc. (Western medicine vs. eastern tradition/practices, etc.)
The list really goes on.
