Expand the left hand side:


3x+0.3 = 1.3

Subtract 0.3 from both sides:


3x = 1

Divide both sides by 3:


x=(1)/(3)

Note that 0.33 is just an approximation. In fact, if you substitute that value for x in the equation, you get


3(0.33+0.1) = 3\cdot 0.43 = 1.29 \\eq 1.3

Instead, if you use the exact value, you have


3\left((1)/(3)+0.1\right) = 1+0.3 = 1.3
