The Mayflower Compact was all about self government. It was the first time the colonists had to make decisions on their own without the Monarch's influence. The United States today doesn't go based on self government because it would be detrimental to the people, anarchy would occur. That is why there's 3 branches of government. The legislative, judicial, and executive branch. Those in these branches must work together to avoid and deal with problems the nation may experience.

Answer:

Before the Pilgrims went ashore the adult males drew up the Mayflower Compact that said they set up a government and agreed to obey its laws. They set up a way to govern themselves and enforce people following those rules. It was a model of self-government without the influence of a monarch or church or other higher authority.

The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut was the first constitution written by a group of settlers feeling religious persecution in the United States. The constitution included that the governor needed to elected and that each community would elect a representative to an assembly whose job it would be to make laws.

These two were unique prototypes for American democracy. From the Mayflower Compact we instilled the idea that the people can come up with a way to govern themselves and it can be agreed upon and implemented. We don’t need to look for a higher authority such as a dictator, monarch or church figure. From the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut we got that we can draft a constitution that people would follow, we can have a representative government which is in place today and that the top leader can be an elected official. The US is still guided by a self-drafted constitutions, is still governed by the people, we utilize elective representatives that assemble to make laws and the citizens elect the top position, the president.
