Why do cells divide rather than get bigger?

1)the can't get bigger
2)the bigger they get, the less efficient they are and can't 3)not meet the needs of the cell
4)diffusion is enough for the cells to grow
5)osmosis allows for larger cells

Explanation: when cells are too big, they cannot transport oxygen, nutrients and waste as efficiently. This means that parts of the cell will die before receiving the needed nutrients or expulsion of waste
