To find the polynomial that represents the area, multiply the two given side lengths and simply out using the FOIL method. Then substitute 5 in for x to solve part two.

Answer:

Part 1

5x^4 + 21x^2 + 4

Part 2

3654

Explanation:

Part 1

To find the area you do length times or height.

(5x^2 + 1)(x^2 + 4)

Using distributive property, we get

5x^4 + 20x^2 + x^2 + 4 = 5x^4 + 21x^2 + 4

Part 2

You plug in x as 5 into this equation 5x^4 + 21x^2 + 4,

5(5^4) + 21(5^2) + 4

= 5(625) + 21(25) + 4

= 3125 + 525 + 4

= 3654
