228/3 = 76

76 x 4 = 304

304 + 228 = 532

There are 532 workers

Answer:

532 of both genders.

Explanation:

The ratio of men to women is 3:4

The ratio of men to men and women is 3/(3 + 4) = 3 / 7

So the proportion looks like this

3 /7 =228 / x

The left hand side is men to everyone. The right hand side is the actual number of men to the total number of everyone.

Cross multiply

3*x = 7 * 228 Multiply the right side

3*x = 1596 Divide by 3

3x/3 =1598/3 Combine

x = 532 Total of both men and women
