Why does Atticus not mind that Bob Ewell spit in his face? What does this reveal about his character?

One reason is that Bob Ewell needed to vent his frustrations, because he hadbeen embarrassed in court. Atticusfigured he was, in a way, helping Bobout. “Jem, see if you can stand in BobEwell's shoes a minute. I destroyed hislast shred of credibility at that trial, if he had any to begin with.
