After World War II, General Douglas MacArthur took charge of the Allied Powers and began the reconstruction work of Japan. MacArthur was the most influencial person making the decision in Japan. The American occupation was divided into three phases: first they intended to punish and reform the Japanese, second they wanted to work on the Japanese economy and finally they conclusion of a treaty and alliance.
