The Star Spangled Banner is important to the United States because it was a poem written about the War of 1812 by Francis Scott Key. The poem conveys the victory of the United States after the war.

The Star-Spangled banner is important because it is the national anthem of the United States of America. Originally intended to be a poem, the lines (and eventually the lyrics) of the song were written on September 14th, 1814 by a lawyer in his mid-thirties, Francis Scott Key.
