Letter E. When the Inquisition tried to force him to take back his beliefs of the Earth moving around the sun, there was no proof that he did. "And yet it moves" were the words that he said under his breath when with the Inquisition. So that is what makes many people believe that he did not believe in what he told them to cause them to calm their nerves.

Answer:

D.) He was able to prove that Ptolemy's theory that the moon had a smooth, polished surface was true.

Step-by-step explanation:

"But peering at the magnified moon, Galileo saw that Ptolemy was wrong. He saw that the moon's surface was, as he later wrote, '"Rough and uneven"' with '"Lofty mountains and deep valleys,'" similar to the surface of the Earth."
