The 15th amendment of the US Constitution states that citizens cannot be stopped from voting based on their race.
This law allowed for all African-American men in the US to vote. Many of these African-American men used this power to elect other African-American men who represented their views.
After this amendment was passed, there were multiple black men serving in the US Congress from southern states.
