Are the following expression equivalent? Explain your answer.

10t + 4 and 14t

I want to say no because if you factor out 10t+4 the answer would be 2(5t+2) but I’m not really sure. I’m split because yes and no lol.

The expressions are not equivalent.

Explanation:

Remember that the letter that accompanies the number is called the variable. You can only add or subtract numbers accompanied by the same variable (letter). So you can't add 10t and 4 because 4 is not accompanied by the variable t.


14t=10t+4t


14t\\eq 10t+4

We can conclude that 10t + 4 and 14t are not equivalent.
