At the Constitutional convention, smaller states supported the New Jersey delegation's plan for government. Why did small states like this plan?

The small states like the plan because in this plan, it was suggested that every state will have the right to vote in the congress without any boundary of being a small state or having lesser number of population.

According to this Plan, every state in the United States will have a right to Vote. This plan was meant to protect the rights and interests of the small states from being manipulated by the larger states.

With this plan in action, every state would have a representative in the Govt. representing the issue of small states and getting rights for them equally.

The "New Jersey Plan" was proposed by William Patterson at the Constitutional Convention of 1787. It was a response to "The Virginia Plan", which proposed that both the House of Representatives and Senate should be represented according to the population of each state. The New Jersey Plan adjusted this and proposed that, while representation at the House of Representatives should be proportional to the population, the Senate should maintain a fixed number of 2 Senators per State. This proposal would eventually beat the Virginia Plan and be included in the Constitution.
