Vivian wants to buy a charm bracelet. Oxford Fine Jewelry charges $7 per charm, plus $51 for the bracelet. Sullivan Jewelers, in contrast, charges $5 per charm and $53 for the bracelet. If Vivian wants to add a certain number of charms to her bracelet, the cost will be the same at either jewelry shop. What would the total cost of the bracelet be? How many charms would that be?

The cost of the bracelet will be $ ____ if Vivian adds ____
charms to it.

The cost would be $58 if Vivian adds 1 charm to it!

Oxford fine jewelry is $51 dollars for the bracelet plus the $7 for one charm = $58

Sullivan jewelers is $53 for the bracelet and $5 for the charm.

Luckily, this ones fast and you can get it the first time you add!!

If you add both of the two numbers of the separate stores you get the same answer for both stores, which is $58!

Create two equations:

Oxford: 51 + 7c

Sullivan: 53 + 5c

C is the number of charms.

Now set the two equations equal to each other and solve for c:

51 + 7c = 53 + 5c

Subtract 5c from each side:

51 + 2c = 53

Subtract 51 from each side:

2c = 2

Divide both sides by 2:

C = 2/2

C = 1

When she buys 1 charm the price will be the same.

Theprice would be 51 + 7 = $58, or 53 + 5 = $58

The cost of the bracelet will be $ 58 if Vivian adds 1

charms to it.
