Although homicides represent a very small number of overall crimes, they are often focused on by the media. Why do you think this is the case? What consequences do you think that this has?

Answer:

Homicides are crimes of utter cruelty, thus, they are focused on by the media. The most heinous crimes are represented through the media before others because of the severity of it. The consequences of putting homicides first on the media, has the effect on the people who watch it and the amount of people who watch it. Many do not watch news channels because of the amount of violent news vs. good news. This can also depict bad views on the media itself.

Homicides are the main focuses in the media by the severity of the crime. You must think of how someone is murdered in cold or accidental blood. Would you report someone being brutally raped and murdered before reporting a missing dog? Exactly. The most heinous crimes are listed before others because of the severity of it and the consequences. The consequences of listing homicides before others might cause an effect in the number of people who watch the media for news. I myself do not watch the news because of the outnumber of violent news versus good news. Every time I turn on the TV it is a depressing story of murder or abandonment.
