Breaking the numbers down into prime factors

8 = 2*2*2

36 = 4*9 = 2*2*3*3

We take the maximum number of times it appears in the terms

2 appears 3 times in the first terms 2 and times in the second term so we take it 3 times

2*2*2

3 appears 0 times in the first terms and 2 times in the second term so we take it 2 times

2*2*2*3*3

This is the least common multiple
