The excitement in their lives depended a lot on where they lived, and what their local noble did.
If they lived in cities, there would be festivals and entertainment on certainly occasions (such as when the noble married or got a son, or religious holidays). Generally, excitement came from things that bring us excitement nowadays (gossip, dancing, getting a crush, marrying etc.) Something as simple as catching a plump rabbit could be a cause for celebration.
They did not have vacations like employees nowadays. Only the nobles could afford to do nothing, or travel to some foreign place or the court. They did not bathe terribly much, but they also weren’t covered in filthy rags.
