Before beginning their fat-loss programs, Alice and Tricia look at a table of normal weight. Alice sees from the table that she is 7 pounds heavier than the normal weight given in the chart. You convince her to have a skinfold test. The test shows that Alice’s body fat is 22 percent. What would you advise her? Why?

I would advise her not to lose any weight at all as according to the skin fold test which measures her body mass index she has 22 percent body fat which is in the normal/healthy weight range. Any BMI between 18.5 to 24.9 is considered healthy. If she really wanted to she could lose the 7 pounds as long as she stays within the healthy BMI levels and doesn't drop any lower than 18.5 but she really doesn't need to.

My advice to her would be, Lose those 7 lbs and then again go for the skinfold test and see if her body mass index is still in the healthy range or not. Because in my opinion, by losing 7 lbs, she won't be in the underweight category. Rather she will feel perfect after losing this extra weight. Then she should try to maintain this weight and follow a healthy life style. She must focus on a healthy diet for her weight loss that she can continue later in the life as well.
