FDR promised a 'New Deal'. no one knew exactly what it was but it brought them hope. he worked for the working class and the poor, the people who needed the most help.
2. he was a good, reassuring speaker. he WA different from other presidents, he was funny and friendly, not strict and authoritative like the others
3. he had suffered too, having contrcted polio and losing the ability to walk. to show he wasnt weak he tried to pretend he could walk, but his suffering did give him a better understanding of the sufferings of the American people.
